right now. this is ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> good morning. thank you for joining us on this wednesday, september first, i am pam cook. >> and good morning, i am dave clark. let's go straight to breaking news right now, this morning. we are getting word right now it appears investigators have uncovered a killing spree. officers just confirmed that two more bodies were discovered overnight in connection with an officer-involved shooting in richmond. right now bomb squad units are at two different locations. kraig debro joins us now with more. what do you know, kraig? >> reporter: this is a huge complicated case. there was a chance that ended up here at this intersection, the suspect is dead. his girl friend is dead. you mentioned that there is a possibility that there might be some explosives -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- out here, this is not the only location. there is a bomb squad -- we will get more on that later -- there is also a bomb squad in vallejo, so the suspect has killed at least two people but could be up to five. last night his life ended right here.
it. we have details from the family and police. the family tells us dennis dixon was shot in the doorway. his 22-year-old stepson was assaulted and taken to the hospital. you can see paramedics taking the stepson away earlier last night. we are told he lived here with his stepfather and may be released earlier. now you are looking at that video of the. the dills which led up to the shooting are not complete. initially police confirmed this was a home invasion but they may have known each oamplet din miss dixon's mother told us she was told her son pulled up to the apartment before 11:00 last night and exchanged words with one of the suspects which is when the suspects forced themselfs into the apartment and then the shooting happened. dennis dixon's brother told us his daughter woke him up in a panic. >> she just banged on the door and said dad, wake up your brother was murdered. and i ran with my boxers on and i just ran to the door and said 0 lord, no, please don't tell me that. and she said, yes. >> reporter: we nt that police arrived quickly to the scene and arrested t

back inside their homes. the city manager has been updating us for hours now. >> right now we're all on standby. we have had about nine units from the sheriff's department that responded. we had three engines from the fire district that responded along with fire chief and battalion chief. >> reporter: the fire department, pg&e crews are out here. we actually can't smell any of the odor that has been placed with the natural gas because the wind is kind of pushing that all away from where we are located. but we can hear this two inch line still spewing that natural gas into the atmosphere this morning. we can tell you anyone trying to access eastbound highway 24 may have trouble at this hour. the city manager has already made contingency plans for drivers commuting this morning since repairs aren't expected to be done soon. we've been told it is shut down through downtown. but brookwood has been opened. so drivers can drive past the theater and on to the freeway. we'll have more on this coming up in just a little bit. live from oridan, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> two other

to the desk. >> thank you. sal. >>> this morning the u.s. coast guard will resume a search of the waters near tiberon. it is in response to a frantic may day call. last night a woman made a distress call on the marin -- [ inaudible ] >> -- some type of emergency but she did not provide any details. it is believed the call came from an area east of the tiberon peninsula. at 6:30 they will send a helicopter over there and we will be there as well. >> it was a violent night in oakland with a rash of shoots at about the same time, just after 10:00 last night. a man was shot at foothill boulevard and 62nd avenue. a woman was shot on 79th avenue and holly street. and a man and a woman were shot at 36th street and west street. >>> now in the shooting on foothill boulevard and 62nd street police say a man was shot in the back. while officers were helping that victim someone drove up to them and reported another shooting. now officers rushed to 79th avenue and holly street. reportedly in that shooting a woman's finger was shot off. she was rushed to highland hospital. >>> then just after 10:30 police
? the complex used to have one guard on duty. management hired a few more after the last assault. all of the assaults have taken place since late june. the latest last night happened at 6:00. a woman told the sheriff's office she was attacked while inside her apartment. the sheriff's officer told us last night that the man followed the woman through the gates of the apartment and into her apartment where he sexually assaulted her. >> i thought they caught the guy and it was all okay. i guess it is not. >> reporter: this is the man still behind bars in connection with the three other assaults at park regency earlier this summer. antonio mutan. his family claims he was innocent, but dna testing linked mutan to one of the rapes. we will have more from the sheriff's office this morning. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 5:02. in other news, there are several developments in the pipeline. fire and explosion in san bruno. pg&e was worried last year that liquids were corroding four pipelines, including the one that blew up last week. the doctor said the seven people se
living around lake merritt. jade hernandez joins us now from our newsroom with more. >> reporter: good morning. two actual assaults and two robberies took place on the same day -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: oak land police want anyone in and and the lake merritt area to be careful and aware 0 of their surroundings, police say he man responsible m attacked the two women sunday in relatively secluded areas but the department is not saying when or where the attacks took place. both were on their way home. police plan to release a skep of the attacker later today but for now they want anyone in the area to be more alert and report anything suspicious to police. >> from what we have been seeing recently with these robberies is people distracted by their cell phone and other electronic devices so especially be diligent entering and exiing cars and coming and going to and from home. >> reporter: the attacker is african american, in his 20s, 510 to 6'0" with a medium build wearing dark clothes. police say he is armed and dangerous. live more on this. live in the newsroom. jade hernandez, back

used to work. efren valdemoro strangled cindy tran while she was in his car as he was being chased by police. cindy tran called coworkers on her cell phone during the chase. they heard her begging for her life. the chase ended when police shot and killed efren valdemoro in richmond on tuesday night. >>> a manhunt is under way for two men accused of kidnapping and killing an east east palo alto man. jade hernandez has details of where the suspects were last seen. >> reporter: good morning. we are live at the alameda county sheriff's office. sheriff's officers have new information in this case. look at these two men. they are now being considered suspects in the case. both are being considered suspects in the kidnapping and death of an east palo alto man. the sheriff's office has arrests warrants for the two men. investigators believe trujillo is in the sacramento area. both men are thought to be connect -- connected in the case of the death and disappearance of frankie lopez. authorities believe the 27-year- old father of two may have had a fight with the man at a marijuana grow h
. a witness told us what she saw. >> i just saw flames shooting through the roof and out the windows and the glass busting out. after i called 911 i took pictures. >> reporter: and these are the pictures from that woman's cell phone. she caught the fire at the height of its intensity. you can see some of the large plumes of flames shooting out from that upper right hand corner. now firefighters who we talked to are on the scene right now they were familiar with this building. that's because this is the second time they have been here. you see there was another fire at 1:00 p.m. yesterday. so this is the second time the same crew has been here in the last 14 hours. is it possible you didn't put out the 1:00 fire and that's what started at 3:00 a.m.? >> it's always possible. but we're pretty sure we had a lady come by saying she heard an explosion and when she looked out saw a flash and heavy fire in the two rooms that weren't on fire. >> reporter: so the captain went onto add the building wasn't completely secure and that means somebody on this busy thoroughfare could have gotten into
